bookout day...1 day of bookout day..
well...not exactly the post you'd be expecting. Don't feel in the mood to write at the moment. I've got about 4 hours of home time to myself, thanks to the weekend camp duties...of which i have 30min of it remaining. No time to write much...Just wanna take the opportunity to pray for good uni results..not that i think it'd have much of an effect, but...well i just hope and wish and hope that i'll get into the course that i want. I'd work hard..i just know it.

Excerpts No.4
10.30am, 03/05/06

I'm currently in the lecture theatre, starting our next lecture of the day. Man..it's really been a hard day..of no physical activities.. =D Writing because..there's nothing else to do. Ok, lecture's starting.

btw: Man oh man i didn't bring any snacks to the lecture. I should've gone for canteen break just now..Oh why oh why do i have to be so stupid..:(

3.20pm, 03/05/06

Just came back from my err...judgement. For the dumb misfire that happened last friday. I'm getting charged..with 7days of S-O-L (stoppages of leave). Basically, i can't book out, go canteen, and i have to report to the Duty Orderly Sergeant every 2hours in my smartest uniform from 6am to 10pm. No matter what else i'm wearing before that. Then there's also the staff parade every night at 9.45pm which i have to attend.

Sigh..can't go for class outing this weekend, Can't say goodbye to my parents...my mum in particular's leaving Singapore for over a month next monday. Can't use my comp and can't help to shift my stuff over to my aunt's place. Long week ahead..I should've expected it to happen anyway.

Could i have escaped it? Probably. I reported myself in fact. One of the sergeants knew..i wasn't sure if he'd slaughter me for not reporting but it turns out he'd have let me off the hook..maybe just give me informal punnishment. But maybe it wouldn't have changed things..i tend to feel guilty pretty easily. It was extremely stupid of me. Sigh. But at least i did the right thing...scant consolation, i suppose.

10.15pm, 03/05/06

Just came back from night parade...this punishment sucks. Although we DO get a little compassion...everyone kinda thinks that we're broken-hearted people close to tears (though it isn't THAT far from the truth). Ahwell. Time for sleep.

7.45pm, 04/05/06

I cried today. Sobbed myself silly in the shower where nobody could see or hear. That makes it twice this year. Twice in 5 years too. I wonder why.

Tried to keep it to myself but couldn't stop the feeling of helplessness. I suppose my section-mates could see. They asked me if i was ok..for some reason that has always made me want to cry even more.

I can't see my parents over the weekend, and i'll have to do sentry duty on sunday till 2am in the morning..the morning that Nutcracker starts. While other people were covered up by their sergeants, i'm being punished for an accident...an accident that i reported myself in for. It doesn't make any difference to the "higher powers". Things can be so harsh sometimes.

11.05pm 05/05/06

Soo...it's just me and Jensen left in the bunk. Everyone else in the platoon's back at home. There's a total of 10 trainees still at our company block.

I'm getting..used to it i think. It's been a tough week but i still seem to have enough energy to go for one more week. Or maybe just a few more days. We'll see.

Oh man...a centipede just entered the bunk. It's..erm..crawling near the door. Not like the thousands of millipedes at the guardhouse area but a true centipede. I'm gonna have to kill it..erm. I'll stop writing here.

8.26am 06/05/06

Hmm..nothing to do now. Nothing that i feel like doing at least. I've gotta pack my field pack for monday's 3-day long outfield disaster, but i don't wanna get started. Maybe later.

Just did my laundry, drew sketches of people i knew and listened to Michelle Branch (something other than Jay Chou for a change..) Now i'm just gonna wait till 8.40am, when i'll have to do area cleaning of the whole school compound...0.0 Oh my. Talk about saigang.

4.40pm, 07/05/06

Man. I wish today was more like yesterday. The SOL gang have been doing outfield sentry duty for another company..because their sergeant major thought "hey, since we're there already...", although we're not actually supposed to leave the camp. Damndamndamn. Someone up there's gonna get into trouble sooner or later. I thought that today i might actually get some sleep..how stupid could i get!

To put it simply, there're lots of mosquitoes here. We're allocated a pitiful shack...about 2m by 1m to sit in, but there's easily 5+ mosquitoes in the same area at any time. The Aedes kind, with striped legs, and one leg curls up like a tail when they bite. Going outside's no use. It just gets worse. This morning when we got off the rover at 6am i could see more than 10 of them swarming around Jensen Loke, my allocated buddy (like who else could it be haha). These dudes bite through uniforms and socks too.

We're both battered warriors now..like the knight with the limp in one leg. I've got 3 bites on my forehead, 2 on my earlobes, 2 on my cheeks, 1 on my chin, 2 on my neck and 2 on my jawline right under my ears. My pal's even worse off.

I've powdered myself ghost-white and we've both put mosquito repellant all over ourselves to no avail (err..or at least not much avail) I've even carved a not-very-nice vulgarity about mosquitoes on the wall and carved a huge cross below that, complete with dead mosquitoes stuck to it to keep out those bloodsuckers. Lol. Stupid, i know, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

I'm currently observing 4 of them flying around my friend..haha he insisted that they weren't attracted to him but i haven't had too many bites since sitting at the entrance of the shack. "You know why or not, Jensen? It's 'cos of this. *points to cross* Hahaha!!" Still, night's falling soon...then the horror will truly start. There's even a sign on the wall of the shack..."mosquito paradise". Really scary.

My friend's been shouting "somebody saaavvve me" a few times now, in the style of Remy Zero. I've got exactly the same sentiments. When will this day ever end???

6.02pm, 07/05/06

I've now got 4 on my hands, 6 on my neck and FIFTEEN on my head. Gosh. Someone get me out of here. Or at least throw me a tube of Mopiko. Ten tubes.

9.00pm, 07/05/06

Man...i've been walking around in circles for hours. No more light to read books, my torch's running out of batt, my pen out of ink, and mosquitoes are on my tail. These guys're incredible. They can bite my neck and hands even while i'm on the move. 0_o

Really boring sia...besides my mum and dad i don't really have anybody to talk to. Too much to hope that a hot babe or really cute girl will give me a call or sms right about now...=|

5.45pm, 10/05/06

Phew, nutcracker was quite mad. Especially digging that huge fire-trench overnight and till evening the next day. Thank goodness for candles. And no rain. At least on the 1st day. That thunderstorm on the second night was quite uncalled for. Not that i had any choice. Bleah.

Anyway, we've washed all the stores and done all the saigang. Just finished some survey in heaven. Well...it IS an air-conditioned room. Next's all that admin work...cleaning our stores before 16km route march tomorrow. Sian man...can't wait for friday. Home after so long. Sigh. :)

Excerpts. No.3.
12.00pm, 25/4/06

Got some time, so i'll just write a 'lil bit. Although i don't really feel like it..I'm quite..mentally exhausted. Between worrying about my medicine and the upcoming Law stuff, i hardly have time to think about Army. Maybe that's a good thing.

No time for much relaxation though. Didn't read my novel and played just a little Oblivion. Spent time celebrating my mum's birthday and, in a sense, preparing for my future. Got 6hours of sleep in all that at least, but i hoped for a bit more. Hohoho..my eyebags'll never heal at this rate. Ohwell..it's falling-in time. Gotta scram.

2.50pm, 02/05/06

Hmm. I realise that i haven't written for awhile..i'm gonna attribute it to lack of time and a whole bunch of unfortunate incidents. Unfortunate incidents meaning, you know, dinner with parents at seafood restaurant, class outing, lunch with friends at Uberburger, lan-ning with friends...LOL! Kidding lah. JUST my internet breaking down for 2 days. I think. :D

Anyway, what has been going on..hmm my medicine interview & written test is over, and so's my test & interview for Law and Law double degree honours programme.

For the medicine essay it was like "What is professionalism, should med students be accountable for a higher level of professionalism, should it be an important criteria for acceptance into the course" or something like that. I found the interviews pretty stressful..first you get interviewed by doctors who looked pretty senior to me, then by alumni and a current student or whatever. Mainly they kept hammering at me about what makes me special compared to the rest and why i want to be a doctor..they didn't want it to be due to outside influences, money, job stability, etc...which i suppose is pretty sensible.

They also went super in-depth when "discussing" the details of my personal statement..so for future aspiring med students, i'd advise that you really know what you're writing in your statement. I didn't really spend much time working out what my statement really meant to me, so oooops.........

For the law interview, though, it kinda wasn't serious at all. A few questions here and there, but mostly lots of joking. My older cousin's interview was very serious however, and he got in..so was kinda worried that they weren't taking me seriously 'cos Law was only my second choice.

The Law essay was quite fun though...something about Mr Lee Tai Koon, who's the richest man in Singapore and owns the largest private property which is surrounded only with nature reserves and enclosed within a 2metre tall hedge. One day, Tom Peepin, a ten year old tourist, was looking through some super binoculars on top of the Carlsberg tower when he saw Lee Tai Koon in his house balcony sun-bathing in the nude. He then told his mother, and the whole group of tourists took turns looking at the nude Mr Lee. Tom's mom later reported this to the police, and Mr Lee was arrested under section 27A of the Public Offences Act or something.

So they then gave us basic info about section 27A and laws concerning privacy in Singapore (err...that there was none lah), then asked us "do you think he is guilty, why, and do you think the law should be changed, and why?" For those interested, my cousin's was about whether women should be allowed to report their husbands to the police for rape. That was 2years ago...

Ok so that was that..Hmm..what else am i missing for this entry...Oh! There's also ARMY LIFE! Lol HOW could i FORGET..-.- Erm..erm..it's really all a blur to me. All i can remember is there being a lot of outfield training. The last two days before the 29th of April break being a stayover, where i slugged through being section commander for all the firing drills during practice for Catwalk (for the guys who understand), less than 3hours of sleep, more than 20 mosquito bites (and i'm considered well off for that already), sticky sweat, smelly clothes, heavy attire, heat exhaustion and a heat rash painful enough to kill an elephant. Ok maybe not an elephant, but at least, erm..at least an ant. Yup..that sounds about right.

On top of all that, i get to enjoy an early bookout on Friday night, at 11pm! While the whole company had to leave at 7am the next day. Which's supposed to be good for me, except that i had Law interview at 10am the next day. Giving me about an hour to do last minute preparations for the interview.

Goddammit! What was supposed to happen was that everyone'd get to book out on Friday night, and i'd get to leave right after dinner. Ahwell. Sucks be to me.

The long weekend was worth it at least..had a decent rest all in all. Except that it's really too short.

I notice that it's really hard to get things done over weekends when you're in the army. The SAF tells you that you get ample break, a.k.a. 2 days a week (though trainees only get one), but it's what i call interrupted break. Especially since our weekdays are usually taken up completely. And no opportunities to use the comp, print documents, meet people, search the net, etc. There're so many things to do but we can't even get started.

Take computer games for example. I realise that i can only really appreciate dota and few other stuff. Oblivion's fun but it isn't enjoyable as it should be because i'd never have enough time to get into the spirit of things, at least not long enough to be immersed into the story and play for more than just a few hours. Only time i've managed to have a measure of fun was during block leave.

Then there're the other, more IMPORTANT things. Splitting rest periods into tiny little pieces doesn't give me enough time to get into the mood of wanting to get anything else done. There's not enough time to apply to more universities, take up a new hobby, think about various uni courses, get a driving license, get attached, blah blah...erps.

Ahwell, no time, but i suppose you might be wondering why i can find so much time to write so much. Well, that's 'cos i went to the MO - medical officer a.k.a doctor -(yet again) for hurting my wrist during close combat training. Was quite worried 'cos i had a hairline fracture in my wrist last year so it could've been a recurrence. The doc told me that hairline fractures heal completely though, and although it's slightly swollen, there's no bone injury this time. Well, i can still write and use a spoon..=|

And my medical status is...One day of "Excused Right Hand". Goodness gracious. For those who don't know, we get a medical status everytime after we report sick and go to the MO, for our instructors to know what kind of stuff we're allowed to do. There's "excused RMJ" (running, marching and jumping), "excused lower/upper limb", "excused heavy load", "excused uniform", "excused boots", "excused footwear", "light duties only a.k.a. Atten B", the crappy "normal duties", and the all powerful "Atten C", which means you get to go home. (No, wait, "Out of Course" is more powerful. "Downgrade" even more so 0_o)

But i sure as heck never seen "Excused Right Hand) before. The medics certainly thought so. They were all laughing at me, saying that i'll have to do one-handed push-ups, and telling me that in no uncertain terms was i allowed to MASTURBATE today. DAMN!! -.- ...Like i SOOO wanted to do it tonight!! -.-

Anyway to cut my ravings short, i'm currently in bunk, writing my blog entry, while practically everyone else is outfield doing those cursed firing drills again. I can only say good luck to them -_^

Kk it's time to stop...my right wrist is beginning to hurt again. Darn. Still wanna write about my misfiring incident, but i'll skip it today. Time to catch up on some sleep..let's hope for at least an hour of it!!

Excerps from the west-side 2
11.45pm, 12/4/2006

Went to the physio on reference from the medical officer for my hip problem..she told me that what i had was some wearing out of a padding of muscle that holds my tib..tibular..dunno what thigh muscle together. Wasn't exactly paying attention to the details..Apparently it can't really be cured, just relieved a little by doing "hip muscle strengthening exercises". Err..ok..

It's been around for more than a month, so i'm quite used to it already. Just a weird snapping feeling and a slight pain when i go up the stairs or up a hill. So i'll book out once a week for the next 3weeks to go for physiotherapy gym sessions. Which may not be a good thing..the sergeants will probably let me go only during periods of time when there isn't anything serious going on (a.k.a. SLACKING periods).

Anyway it's midnight now..was writing this while waiting for debrief, but now that that's over, i probably should go wash off the camouflage from my face and prepare for tomorrow's killer day. Need to wake up at like 5.20am..what's happened to that compulsory 7 hours of sleep huh..

10.41pm, 16/4/2006

Argh, didn't get to update my blog over the long weekend, 'cos was like playing around for the 1st 2 days, then on Saturday evening i get a letter saying that i've been shortlisted for NUS medicine..which's great except that i had to prepare so many documents at the last minute..personal statement, blah blah..and i have to mail everything in by the 20th. So i had, like, 4 days notice. Great. 3 of those days being spent in camp. Even better. Ahwell, i'll be fine with anything if i can get the university place in the end. Only have myself to blame that i didn't prepare all of this sooner. Then again that's not very fair..i'm pretty much a..late bloomer..as far as interest in medical studies is concerned.

Back in camp now, and it's late, so i'd better go sleep. Lights are supposed to be off now, and i've got an early early wake up call tomorrow. Time to take a shower..

[Note..just managed to get my internet back after 1 day of stoppage..more posts coming up soon..i'm currently suffering from a lack of something..I think it's called "time"..:\]
