Haha, it's been a long time since i last blogged...the fact that blogger.com was no longer part of my quick URL list kinda speaks volumes. Well, i finally got off my skinny-ass and now I AM WRITING!! Woohoo..even though what i REALLY wanna do is take a bath. And get something to eat. Not blog, for sure.
Well hmm...for army stuff...well i'm going to Australia in November 21st or something..and i'll be back around the 10th of December...which would've been a nice long vacation except that i'll be headed to the middle of NOWHERE. And i'll be doing really crappy things and basically sweating in my uniform which i'd have probably worn through the sandfly bites and desert dust for the past week. Or hopefully just 3 days. Which's still B-A-D. Can't tell you guys any more details, 'cos i've a vague feeling that i'll be charged in military court if i revealed more...0_o
WELL, but life for the moment's pretty easy, 'cos all the stores have been prep-ed up and sent over to the Land of the Mates...so there's marginally LESS things to do around here. There's live firing range test coming up soon though..which i have to say really SUCKS 'cos we've gotta book in at 10pm, which's really dumb to me 'cos we'd get to spend 10hrs the next day sleeping while we're waiting for the sun to fall...-.- (there's a day-time shoot and a nighttime one as well)
But anyway, enough crapping...i did say in the entry title that i got some new entertainment right? Haha, got a few cool items over the past 2 weeks..
1. Evanescence's new album: The Open Door
Now i'm not sure if you know this but i'm a HUGE fan of their music (see my friendster lah dude) and this album, well, i wouldn't say it's kick ass but it's very nice. It's...scarier-sounding than Fallen, which's their 1st album. Dunno why...i think maybe there's more usage of an orchestra? And a choir? Not to mention their piano tunes too...
The singing is as good as ever...Amy Lee has gotta be one of my all-time favourite vocalists man. Her voice's comfort range is like...one full octave above my own. And somehow, i just seem to like female singers with high-pitched but gentle, yet strong, voices (*hint hint* it MIGHT be the same for...cough)... Sarah McLachlan's good too. Michele Branch's a little bit lower though, and Fiona Apple and Aimee Mann are exceptions to this, but what the heck.
I still prefer the tunes of Fallen, all in all, but it's still a must-have for err..semi-gothic-rock-lovers. A good change from the remixes and "original tracks" that were released on their previous records, "Not For Your Ears" and "Anywhere But Home".
2.Jay Chou's latest: 依然范特西
Yup yup and it was v cheap too! $15 with a free poster from Sembawang..although there were like 10 songs only. Tunes-wise a little disappointing though...the songs aren't very memorable this time, apart from the 1st track which sounds a lot like Ye Hui Mei's 1st track,
yi fu zi ming (err..translated as "in the name of the father" or smthn..) although it's totally different, melody-wise. He's got some nice slow ones, but nothing as memorable as his classics. Just a few
Feng (November's Chopin)-style stuff. One of his worst albums, to me, but that's only 'cos people've set the standards of creativity for him sky-high. Still a nice record.
3.John Mayer's Latest: Continuum
Haven't had much of a chance to listen to this, but i've run through the whole album twice, and the songs're really peaceful and nice! Not as pop-ish and upbeat as "No Such Thing" or "Your Body is a Wonderland" but he croons a lot more..think maybe "Daughters" with a touch of Buble. Great stuff to..er...eat dinner to (haha i'ev never heard of THAT kinda description before). 0.0
I've got some new anime too! A bit too many to finish, somehow, although all i've got in queue now is a VERY disappointing Peacemaker (think of an anime with poor music, a dry, uninvolving plot, and with a main character who's twice as stupid as Naruto at his WORST and who's not even
funny), Moon Phase (a cute little vampire romance thingee that {as usual} looks like it was meant for kids but actually isn't), and Naruto FILLERS. Sigh. I do wanna watch Moon Phase though heez.
Over the past 2 weeks i finished Maburaho...which turned out to be pretty decent. Some people may find it boring though...like the fact that there could be more fighting, more embarrassing situations, more romance, and more story development. But what the hell, i still enjoyed it anyway hahaha. Hard to find anything else to watch in any case.
Watched Full Metal Panic too! Whaha i started playing the anime last saturday night at, like, 1am, and i kept on until 7 in the morning...shows how good it is, and how cunning the producers were (to keep the suspense up at the end of each episode so u'd HAVE to watch the next one..). I heard the latter part of the series was not following the manga though. Sad sia. And the story was once again too short..there was romance and school stuff and mech fighting but i think having more of it would've been great! 24 episodes's just too short..i think i'm a little spoiled by Naruto. As a compromise, there should've been around 50 episodes. And THAT goes for maburaho and most of the countless 24/25/26 episode-long series i've watched!
And finally, the anime adaptation of the manga series D.Gray-man (which i was introduced to by wu junjie during signal training) has just been released! At least the first 3 episodes..and there'll be 1 more every week! Cool stuff...D.Gray-man's a bit weird though. In that it's very religious...with exorcists and demons and all that...very obviously Christian except that the Christian beliefs have been twisted a little bit. No, a LOT. I don't like all that holy talk, plus i think the writer might be a bit of a wacko (maybe he supports GWB too. Errrps.) but well, it's still a promising storyline. And i like a main character who is cursed by demons. Like a knight with a limp or a good-guy-hero who's a wanted and feared assassin.
Anyway, i've written quite a bit, so i'll end off with one final announcement...i PASSED my BASIC DRIVING THEORY!! Da da da dum! :D Was the second one in the room to finish the test too, despite having to change computers because of a computer hang. That felt good; a nice demonstration of the powers of JC-mentality-last-minute-mugging.
I'm a little slow though...i suppose i can be excused because i turned 18 on December 31st last year, like 5 days before i entered NS, but still...there're people in my batch with driving LICENCES already. And besides chong-foo-jack and fengquan, i saw my JUNIOR doing the basic theory test too! Moujian from RJC..he was from my adopted mini-group/flick in MY orientation group/film. Haha JAMIE are u reading this?? Moujian lol! Wah, missed the guy, man...but anyway he's damn zai lah...one month after birthday doing basic theory liao..he must've applied right away.
I think there're lots of guys like him though. Probably some JC guys who've already gotten their licences. Sigh. :\
