Ok, i booked out of NS on monday night...supposed to go back on wednesday evening but i decided to get an MC for the flu that i...acquired...right before i went for BMT (basic military training). Actually, it's an "upper respiratory tract infection" now. So i'll only have to book back into camp on thursday morning...at around 7am.
NS has been...ok lah i suppose. If not for the flu i probably would've found it much more comfortable. I got posted to Ninja Company, Platoon 3 Section 4, which in my opinion is one of the best platoons i could've gone to, although on the whole Ninja has got quite a reputation for being very
hiong. For some reason the people in my company aren't very fit on the whole, and even with the flu i'm still physically very much above average. Overall, i'd say that 01 Scouts was still more physically and mentally taxing, although the Army has the..er..benefit of having less rest time per day (about..1hr total to just do what you want. They give you an hour of "free time" at night but, hey, you need that to bathe and brush your teeth and do all the last minute preparations right?) and being MUCH longer on the whole. In 01 scouts it was just "suffer for 5days and it's all done". But army is going to last almost 2 years...
Personally i don't think i'm mentally fitted to be a soldier. I can't take orders without questioning them, i've got a pretty high standard of living and i love my freedom of choice and my rights as a citizen. Then again i'm quite resigned to go through all this in order to keep my Singaporean citizenship. At least there isn't much pressure for me to shine out among the rest, since i decided that i want to relax and not strive for any high rank. Just try to enjoy my self and learn new things. Maybe i'll try becoming a sergeant or something but not an officer.
Well, gotta go pack for now...maybe if i have time later i'll write more. Or maybe i should just spend the time enjoying my little comforts and my freedom before going back in for another 11 days...
